Viver é Morrer (To live is to die)

Com o objetivo de encarar as inevitáveis marcas do envelhecimento em meu corpo eu imprimo cópias de autorretratos e as deixo "estragar" com ferrugem, sal, água, também modifico as imagens com slime, às vezes eu costuro ou as queimo. Sim, elas mudam!

Desconstruir as imagens me faz pensar como meu corpo envelhece e continuará envelhecendo  ao longo dos anos. Eu observo os autorretratos envelhecerem, como eu, um movimento de fora para dentro. Parafraseando Fernando Pessoa, filósofo e escritor português (1888/1935), "viver é morrer".

Hybrid photography has been helping me face the marks of the inevitable aging on my 55 years old body.

I print copies of my self portraits and let them spoil with rust, salt, water, and steel wool, I also modify the images with slime and sometimes I sew or burn them. They do change! 

Deconstructing the images makes me realize how my body age and will be aging over the years. I observe the portraits getting old, as I do, a movement from the outside to the inside.

By now I can mention Fernando Pessoa, a portuguese philosopher and writer (1888/1935), he said "to live is to die".
